Transforming

Conversation

Transforming Conversation is based on a belief that participating in intentional, facilitated conversation can be a transformative process.  It offers a specific method and process but recognises that the skills and experiences it provides can have positive effects beyond the group settings it promotes.

It is a modern form of the ancient tradition of spiritual conversation and aims to encourage conversations about things that matter to people of any faith and belief, or none.  It is rooted in the Christian tradition but seeks to engage in a way which is inclusive and equitable, offering a safe place to share and explore ideas and beliefs.

Vision

A community of inspired and confident people engaging in transformative
conversation about life, belief and faith.

The TC Community is open to everyone who wants to maintain a connection with Transforming Conversation and who has attended training or been involved with TC or its predecessor (Christian Communities in Conversation) or Shoreline (which was foundational in the setting up of CCiC).

Mission Statement

facilitation of transformational conversation.

Aim:

transformative conversation in their own context.
  •  Provide opportunities for ongoing training and continuing development in
    transformational conversation and reflective practice.

    conversations.

Be kept informed

Our regular newsletter is the easiest way to stay up to date with the latest Transforming Conversation updates, providing information about Community of Practice Meetings, Gathering Days, Training Opportunities and other events. It also includes feedback from Conversation Groups, Facilitators and Coaches and highlights resource materials and links to other related initiatives.

Wellbeing Resources

District Wellbeing Officer Tracey Collins and Ruth have created a new conversation resource, based around the 5 pillars of wellbeing. These resources will be available early in the New Year.

If you are interested in finding out more about this series of conversations and how it could be used with a group in your Church or Community, please contact Ruth training@transformingconversation.org or Tracey on wellbeing@swpmethodist.org.uk

Advent Reflections

After hearing a few quotes on “you are a gift” and using part of the TC Advent resources (created by Ruth Hartley), we reflected on our theme, which
was based on the Methodist Advent theme for this year:  Gifts. The conversation began with thinking about how we have and are gifts from God,
how we use these outside Church. We explored some different ways of thinking about gifts – receiving something, doing things for “givers”, having
conversation, these can all be gifts. This led on to a lovely analogy about how Jesus was the most unlikely gift of all – a tiny baby when people were
expecting a king(!) A joyous and heartwarming thing to hear was someone saying that TC, especially the Wednesday community meetings, are a gift to
them!

Our summary seemed to leave us with a lot of questions. What is our motivation behind giving? Do we give to receive? How often do we
give for recognition? How often do we give because that gift could be a blessing to someone? Are our gifts sitting on a shelf or are we using them to the full potential?
