Justice - Dignity - Solidarity

Becoming Better Together: Background

The Methodist Church is committed to Justice, Dignity and Solidarity (JDS), their Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) work. This commitment is based on the belief that all people are uniquely made in the image of God and should be treated with equal value and respect.

The 2021 Methodist Conference adopted the Strategy for Justice, Dignity and Solidarity to become a more inclusive church and address ongoing discrimination based on race, sexuality, gender, and disability.

Key Initiatives:

Becoming Better Together Project

Initiated in 2024, the South West Peninsula District project involves individuals, churches, circuits, and the district in a focused effort to become an inclusive church.

Positive Working Together

This initiative establishes shared commitments for respectful behaviour and interactions within church communities, emphasizing the treatment of every person with dignity and respect.

EDI Toolkit

The Church provides an extensive EDI Toolkit with modules covering specific equality themes like age, disability, ethnicity, and sexual orientation to help churches reflect and make changes.
